The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational involvement, working closely with Directors, senior management and operational teams.

Based preferably in Glasgow, the position involves regular UK travel and some involvement in European operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the organisation's Handamp;S strategy, policies, procedures and management systems.

  • Develop and implement Handamp;S objectives, driving continuous improvement across the business.

  • Provide expert health and safety advice to Directors, senior management and operational teams.

  • Oversee compliance across multiple locations, including internal audits, risk assessments and assurance activities.

  • Lead accident and incident investigations, including RIDDOR reporting and corrective actions.

  • Manage workplace risks, including fire safety, asbestos, legionella, working at height and contractor activities.

  • Monitor third-party contractors and external service providers to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

  • Identify training requirements and develop Handamp;S awareness and competence across the organisation.

  • Produce Handamp;S performance reports and recommendations for senior leadership.

  • Support European operations, coordinating with local specialists where required and ensuring legislative compliance.

Requirements

We are looking for an experienced health and safety professional who can demonstrate:

  • NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification.

  • CMIOSH, or Graduate IOSH membership working towards chartership.

  • Significant Handamp;S experience within a multi-site or complex operational environment.

  • Proven experience developing and implementing Handamp;S strategies, policies and management systems.

  • Strong knowledge of UK Handamp;S legislation, including CDM Regulations, RIDDOR and fire safety.

  • Experience conducting audits, managing compliance programmes and leading incident investigations.

  • Recognised auditing qualification or demonstrable lead-auditor experience, ideally ISO 45001.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership.

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Experience supporting European operations, ISO 14001 management systems or additional fire safety/environmental qualifications would be advantageous.

This is an opportunity to take full ownership of an organisation-wide health and safety function, working directly with senior leadership and influencing Handamp;S standards across UK and European operations.
